§ In Europa non è ancora il 1 Dicembre ma a casa di Marsha lo è.
Ed ecco il bellissimo albero che ha realizzato con tutti gli ornamenti che hanno viaggiato per il mondo.
Andate a curiosare, è splendido.

§ In Europe it isn't the 1st December yet but it is at Marsha's home.
And here it is the beautiful tree she realized with all the ornaments that has travelled around the world.

§ Questa è la pallina che io ho inviato a Natasha.
Si poteva fare qualcosa di proprio ed era questa la mia intenzione ma quando, a Cortona, ho visto questa pallina di ceramica ho pensato che fosse perfetta.
E' dipinta a mano e rappresenta un tipico paesaggio toscano, un pezzetto di Italia che poteva viaggiare fino in Australia.

§ This is the bubble I sent to Natasha.
We could handmade something and this was my will but when in Cortona I saw this ceramic bubble I thought it was perfect.
It's handpainted and it shows a tipical tuscan landscape, a piece of Italy which was free to travel all way to Australia.

2 anni e mi sembra ieri che ho cominciato a scrivere convinta che nessuno si sarebbe mai interessato ai miei vaneggiamenti.

2 anni e mai più avrei sperato di fare tanti nuovi incontri

2 anni e mai più mi sarei immaginata che avrei incontrato amici veri

Sono davvero grata a questo blog e alle opportunità che mi ha offerto e sono grata di tutti i commenti che lasciate e delle mail che scrivete.

Signore e Signori,

ho il piacere di ricordarvi che il 12 ed il 13 di Febbraio 2011 ci sarà la 7^ edizione di Miniaturitalia.

Vale la pena fare un viaggetto, prendere un treno ( magari notturno, va bene Caterina?) per ammirare il lavoro di tanti miniaturisti bravissimi.

Andate a curiosare sul sito e non dimenticate di controllare gli workshops; quest'anno sono fantastici.

4 generazioni in fila - 4 generations in a row

Un post veloce veloce per festeggiare la capostipite della famiglia, la mitica Rosalba.

Proprio lei, la figlia di Narciso, il migrante in America, ed ora a capo di una tribù che la ama e un tantino la teme per la sua grinta proverbiale.

Eccola insieme ad un figlio, due nipoti e due bisnipoti.

Il grande festeggiamento per l'Highlander ( così viene affettuosamente chiamata) con TUTTA la truppa avverrà a fine mese.

Buon compleanno Nonna e 100 di questi giorni !!!

A quick quick post to celebrate family's founder, the mithical Rosalba.

It's truly she, Narciso's, the migrant to America, daughter and now head of a tribe who loves and a bit fears her for her proverbial grit.

Here is she with one son, two grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

The big party for the Highlander ( that's how she is fondly called) with ALL the troop will be thrown at the end of the month.

Happy Birthday Nonna and 100 more of these days !!!

Ellis Island

§ Questo post non c'entra NIENTE con le miniature, non c'entra niente con Genova ma ha molto a che fare con i viaggi.

§ This post has NOTHING to do with minis, nothing to with Genoa but it has much to do with trips.

§ Oggi parlando con un'amica ho avuto un'idea che mi ha portato fino ad Ellis Island.

Tutti noi sappiamo quanti Italiani ( circa 5 milioni !!!) hanno cercato fortuna, o anche solo una vita più decente, negli USA e penso che quasi tutte le famiglie annoverino almeno un membro che si è imbarcato su una nave della speranza.

§ Today talking with a friend I had an idea which brought me straight to Ellis Island.

We all know how many Italians ( nearly 5 millions!!!) have looked for luck, or even only a more decent life, in the USA and I think the most families have at least one member who embarked on a hope ship.

§ Il mio bisnonno era uno di questi e la sua nave era la Konig Albert partita da Genova.

§ My great grandfather was one of them and his ship was the Konig Albert leaving from Genoa.

§ Partì dall'Italia a 24 anni per arrivare ad Ellis Island il 27 Settembre 1911.

E' passato quasi un secolo ma ha il sapore di una fiaba, un mito troppo lontano da noi per pensare che sia successo davvero.

Ed invece successe per lui così come per tante altre persone.

Affrontò un viaggio lungo, faticoso solo per avere un'opportunità che non pensava di avere nella sua terra natia.

§ He left Italy at 24 to arrive to Ellis Island the 27th September 1911.

Nearly one century has elapssed but it has a fairy tale flavour, a mith too far from us to think that it really happened.

And yet it did for him as well as for many other people.

He faced a long, tiring trip only to have an opportunity which he didn't think he had in his own home land.

§ Si è sottoposto alla procedura di sbarco con l'interrogatorio di pragmatica e posso solo immaginare il timore di essere rimandato indietro.

§ He underwent the disembarketion procedure with the pragmatic questioning and I can only imagine the fear of being sent back.

§ E alla fine toccò il suolo Americano ma non restò a New York, raggiunse dei cugini in California.

§ At last he touched the American ground but he didn't stay in New York, he reached some cousins in California.

§ La storia non finisce qui :o))

Pochi anni dopo Narciso, questo era il suo nome, tornò in Italia e si sposò con Maria Teresa.

Per fortuna ?!,per caso ?! sicuramente era il suo destino, scoppiò la Grande Guerra e non tornò mai più indietro.

Narciso e Teresa ebbero 11 figlioli, una era la mia nonna Rosalba così chiamata per festeggiare l'alba rosata di un nuovo mondo dopo la fine della I^ Guerra Mondiale.

E io sono proprio contenta che sia andata così.

§ The tale doesn't end here :o))

A few years later Narciso, this was his name, came back to Italy and married Maria Teresa.

Luck ?! chance ?! surely it was his destiny, the Great War blew up and he didn't go back any more.

Narciso and Teresa had 11 children, one was my granny Rosalba called so to celebrate the rosy dawn of a new world ater the end of WW1.

And I'm very happy that it ended like that.

§ Questa è Ellis Island oggi; un museo per ricordare i milioni di persone che sono passate attraverso i suoi saloni. Nel sito del museo ho trovato il registro con il nome e i dati riguardanti il bisnonno e mi sono commossa.

Cerchiamo di ricordarci quanta parte di noi, come popolo, ha dovuto lasciare tutto quello che aveva solo per inseguire un sogno.

E cerchiamo di comprendere coloro che ora fanno il viaggio inverso.

§ This is Ellis Island now; a museum to remember the millions of people who went through its corridors. In the museum website I have found the register with my great granddad name and data and I was touched.

We should try to remember how much part of us, as people, left all they had only to follow a dream.

And we should try to comprehend those who are now doing the reverse trip.

Solo per un giorno tornerò a Parigi per vedere Paris Creation e per passare un po' di tempo con Linda e David.

Sarà una sfacchinata ma so già che ne varrà la pena.

Guess where I'm going at the end of the month ?

Just for one day I'll go back to Paris to see Paris Creation and to spend some time with Linda and David.

It will be hard but I already know it will be worth of it.

§ Questo è Villa Serra di Comago, il posto dove oggi siamo andati con Linda e David.

Sfortunatamente il tempo era infame.

Considerato che la villa è in stile Tudor il clima Scozzese odierno era in perfetta sintonia.

§ This is Villa Serra of Comago, the place where Linda, David and my family went today.

Unfortunately the weather was terrible.

Considering that the villa was built in Tudor style the Scottish climate we had today was perfectly in tune.

§ Questa è la torre di Villa Serra ed ospita un albergo ed un ristorante, La Locanda del Cigno Nero.

E' un posticino che noi amiamo e dove andiamo frequentemente e dove il cibo è delizioso.

Giuro che non mi pagano per fare pubblicità !!!

It's a little place that we like very much and where we often go and the food is always delicious.

Dalla Petite Maison alla mia piccola città - From Petite Maison to my small city

Ultimamente sono un po' latitante ma ho un ottimo motivo.

Qualche giorno fa sono arrivati a Genova Linda e David direttamente dalla Petite Maison in Tasmania via Parigi.

Spero che non si stanchino troppo presto di noi perchè noi sicuramente non ci stancheremo di loro; sono persone assolutamente adorabili.

Non so dirvi quanto sia contenta di questa visita e di aver fatto la loro conoscenza.

La blogsfera è davvero il paese delle Meraviglie.

Lately I have been absent from the web but I have the best of reasons.

Some days ago Linda and David arrived in Genoa straight from La Petite Maison in Tasmania via Paris.

I hope they will not tire too soon of us because we could never get tired of them; they are absolutely lovely persons.

I cannot tell you how happy I am of their visit and of having made their acquaintance.

Blogland is truly Wonderland.

§ La macchina da cucire ora è corredata di puntaspilli ( spilli per farfalle) e gessetto da sarta, intagliato nel sapone. Ahimè, il vero gesso da sarta si sbriciolava tagliandolo.

§ The sewing machine now has its own pincushion (butterflies pins) and the seamstress chalk carved out of soap. Alas, real chalk crumbles away while you try cutting it.

§ Però sembra proprio vero !! Sono soddisfatta.

§ But it looks quite real !! I'm very happy of it.

§ A chi mi ha chiesto se non mi dispiaceva dare via la macchina da cucire posso dire .... no.

Quando regalo una cosa mi fa piacere che sia il meglio che posso offrire, qualcosa che io stessa gradirei ricevere e questo è ancora più vero se il ricevente è un'amica.

Per cui.... no, non mi dispiace per niente (^_^)

When I give something as a gift my pleasure is that it could be the best that I can give, something which I'd like to receive myself and this is even truer if the recipient is friend.

La Sarta - The Seamstress

Un mesetto fa una cara amica mi ha chiesto una piccola room box da regalare ad una zia a cui è molto affezionata e che faceva la sarta.

Vi mostro fin dove sono arrivata (molto poco ma davvero ho poco tempo ultimamente) e intanto anche Fiore Svizzero potrà vedere i progressi e chiamarmi per dirmi cosa vorrebbe aggiungere ;o))

Nearly one month ago a dear friend asked me a small room box to be presented to an aunt whom she loves much and who used to be a seamstress.

I'll show you what I have done ( very little but I really have little time lately) and Fiore Svizzero would be able to look at the progress and call me to tell what she'd like more.

La gonna blu è l'uniforme classica per le signore Genovesi di mezz'età....giuro di non averne neppure una nel mio guardaroba !

The blu skirt is the classical uniform for middle aged Genoa ladies.... I promise I do not have one in my wardrobe !

Le riviste Burda sono un must da decenni; queste sono del 1966, 1975 e 1982.

La macchina da cucire ha il pedale mobile e le ruote girevoli !!

Un colpo di fortuna trovato in un negozio di cineserie, in realtà è un....accendino !! peccato averne solo una.

The sewing machine had a moving foot pedal and revolving wheels !!

It has been a lucky find in a chinese shop, actually it is a..... lightner !! it's a pity I have only one.

Sugli scaffali ci sono scatole, riviste di moda, nastri e rocchetti ....

On the shelves there are boxes, fashion mags, ribbons and reels ....

.... in più stoffe di vario genere e sul muro le foto di famiglia.

Qui ci sono la zia, lo zia, la sorella e il membro più giovane della famiglia (^_^)

Here there are auntie, uncle, her sister and the family's youngest member (^_^)

Qua ci sono i rocchetti; ognuno di loro è ritto su un perno, ne manca uno, quello bianco, perchè è in uso sulla machina.

Here are the reels; each one stands on a pin, one is missing, the white one, because it's being used on the sewing machine.

Ed una scatolina di nastri assortiti, non si sa mai a cosa possono servire.

And a small ribbons box, you never know how they might be used for.

Christmas ornament exchange

§ Marsha qualche tempo fa ha lanciato uno swap Natalizio in scala 1:1.

Si trattava di uno scambio di decorazioni natalizie.

La mia compagna di swap è Natasha dall' Australia e la scorsa settimana ho ricevuto il suo regalo.

Non sono carini ?

Non vedo l'ora di appenderli al mio albero.

§ Non sto facendo miniature...non sto facendo le pulizie di cui la mia casa ha disperato bisogno... non sto facendo gli orli ai pantaloni del camice di Walter...

Sto facendo una cosa che non mi ero mai concessa; mi sto viziando !!

Mi sto concedendo tempo, affetto e qualche regalino.

Oggi sono stata a Milano dove mi aspettava un'amica di blog venuta dalla brumosa Scozia.

La città ci ha accolto con il suo volto migliore, un sole primaverile ed un'aria allegra.

Vi mostro il Duomo , meraviglia gotica che è stata da poco ripulita e restaurata e riportata così al suo antico splendore.

Abbiamo chiacchierato, passeggiato, mangiato gelato, curiosato nelle splendide vetrine di questa bella città.

E mi sento dannatamente meglio !!!

Today I was in Milan where a blog friend come from misty Scotland was waiting for me.

The city has welcomed us with its best look, a springy sun and a merry face.

I'm showing you the Duomo, gothic wonder which has been recently cleaned and restaured and brought back to its former splendour.

We chatted, walked, eaten icecream, browsed in the wonderful windows of the great shops of this beautiful city.

And I feel damn good !!!!

Beautiful Toscana

Solo due parole veloci veloci.

Siamo stati due giorni in Toscana nella zona delle Crete Senesi, uno dei più bei siti d'Italia.

L'opinione non è solo mia visto che tre quarti delle persone che abbiamo incontrato erano turisti stranieri.

Domenica il tempo è stato favoloso mentre lunedì pioveva in modo fastidioso ma ciò non ha rovinato la nostra mini vacanza.

We have been two days in Tuscany in the Crete Senesi region, one of the most beautiful spots in Italy.

This opinion is not only mine since that three quarters of the people we met were foreign tourists.

The weather has been lovely on Sunday while on Monday there was a fastidious rain but this did not ruin our mini holiday.
